Nail technician and manicuring courses
The table separates PJ's 450-hour manicuring course from its 600-hour nail technician track. Each check line identifies the campus's active Indiana Beauty Culture School license, with its expiration and the date checked.
Plainfield campus confirms nail training, ongoing enrollment and monthly starts. License record shows a September 18, 2026 Letter of Reprimand; school status remains Active.
The nail program page and 2025 catalog both list Greenfield. The campus page lists monthly starts but describes cosmetology and instructor training; confirm the next nail intake.
Provide the school's education certification and the Board's $40 application fee, along with the required application documents.
Nail technician wages: Indiana data
The May 2025 BLS Indianapolis-Carmel-Greenwood metro table does not publish a separate manicurist and pedicurist estimate (SOC 39-5092). The Indiana statewide table reports 510 jobs in this occupation, with median pay of $17.38 per hour and $36,140 per year. These are statewide figures, not an Indianapolis starting wage.
BLS explains that OEWS excludes self-employed workers. That matters when considering a salon booth or independent nail business. Ask about employee pay, commissions, tips, supply charges and weekly hours. For a business arrangement, compare expected expenses separately from employee wage data.
Nail school charges and payment options
Paul Mitchell publishes $4,900 tuition and $6,750 total for manicuring. PJ's nail cost table lists $6,095 tuition and $7,693 total for its 450-hour course, or $8,944.50 tuition and $10,542.50 total for the 600-hour Indiana track. Those are school-page prices checked October 27, 2026.
Tricoci lists $9,480 tuition including a kit and describes FAFSA-based aid for eligible students. Ask each financial aid office whether your exact course qualifies for Pell Grants or loans. WorkOne Indy can review WIOA eligibility and available training before funding is approved; WorkOne Central serves surrounding communities.
Veterans and eligible dependents can check program approval through the VA comparison tool. If you seek employer-paid tuition, ask the salon for written payment and repayment terms. Do not count that help toward your budget until it is confirmed.
Indiana's education chart lists a 450-hour minimum for manicurists. A school can publish a longer course: Tricoci teaches 600 hours, and PJ's lists both a 600-hour Nail Technician course and a 450-hour Manicuring course. Compare their subjects, attendance requirements and total charges before choosing the track that fits your plans.
Can I attend nail classes in the evening?
Tricoci's Indianapolis campus lists a part-time evening manicuring schedule from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Prestige publishes Tuesday-Thursday afternoon/evening classes plus Saturday attendance. Confirm the days for your cohort, required clinic shifts and make-up hours before changing your work schedule. The campus's business hours may differ from your class hours.
Are Aveda and Empire taking nail students locally?
Aveda's Indianapolis nail page says it is not currently enrolling. Empire's 2026/27 Indiana catalog marks Nail Technology as not currently offered, despite a listing on its Indianapolis campus page. Neither course appears in this table. Check the schools directly for a dated reopening announcement if you want to consider a future intake.
Does nail training include the state license?
A school course and a professional license are separate steps. Indiana's examination application instructions call for the school's education certification, a passing PSI written exam notice and an application. Ask the school which testing expenses it covers, when it releases completion records and who helps with your application.
How soon can I start a manicuring course?
Paul Mitchell lists November 17, 2026 for full-time manicuring and December 7, 2026 for part time. AM Beauty College publishes January 4, 2027 for full time and an expected spring 2027 part-time intake. These are published dates, not a seat reservation. Contact admissions to confirm space and any documents due before class.
